WINDSOR-ESSEX WEBSITE BUYER'S GUIDE | OCTOBER 2026
Web developers in Windsor-Essex: compare the scope before the quote
The best quote is the one you can compare. Before contacting designers in Windsor, Amherstburg, LaSalle, Tecumseh, Kingsville or Leamington, write down what customers must be able to accomplish on your website and what happens after launch.
Editorial disclosure: This guide is published by Harbour & Main, which also appears below. These descriptions come from providers' public websites. We have not independently audited their project delivery, pricing, availability or customer satisfaction. This is not a ranked list.
Local providers worth investigating
| Provider | What its public site describes | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Harbour & Main | Websites, custom software, AI and automation. Its design showcase includes clearly labelled concepts, not verified completed client projects. | What will be built, maintained and handed over? |
| Red Piston | Web development, mobile development, design and other digital services; lists Windsor, Ontario. | Do you handle businesses and budgets of our size? |
| Web Geeks | Responsive websites and broader digital marketing, e-commerce and web services; lists an Amherstburg head office. | Which hosting, marketing and support tasks are included? |
These are only examples, not a complete directory. Ask for comparable completed work and references, and request the same written scope from each.
Copy-and-use website quote brief
Send this to each shortlisted provider so the answers are comparable:
Our business and service area: ________
What the visitor should do: call / request a quote / book / purchase / other ________
Pages and functions: ________
Existing materials: domain / logo / images / copy / inventory ________
Required integrations: payments / bookings / CRM / forms / accessibility ________
Desired timeline and approximate budget: ________
Request: itemize setup costs, ongoing fees, content responsibilities, exclusions, testing, and post-launch support.
Compare the first year and the renewal year
Enter the same scope for each quote. This worksheet calculates setup plus twelve monthly payments plus annual fees you enter. It is not a market-price estimate. Leave nothing out: ask whether hosting, maintenance, licences, tax and payment processing are included. A blank or zero field is not evidence that a cost is included.
Renewal-year totals exclude setup, assume unchanged rates and exclude unentered extras. Confirm renewal increases, usage fees, cancellation charges and what you keep when you leave. A cheaper total does not establish better delivery or support.
Compare the contract, not the adjectives
- Ownership: Who controls domain registration, hosting, code, designs and administrator accounts?
- Maintenance: Who handles updates, backups, security fixes and broken forms after launch?
- Recurring charges: Separate hosting, software licences, email, payment processing and optional support.
- Editing: Can your team update pages, hours, pricing and photos without a developer?
- Accessibility and privacy: Name the specific applicable standards and privacy work included in scope.
- Exit plan: Specify what files, credentials and documentation you will receive if you change providers.
Agree on launch tests before signing off
Ask for evidence of functioning forms and email delivery, usable mobile layouts, correct business hours and service areas, working navigation, an obvious path to contact you, and a handoff walkthrough. Agree who owns fixes found during an agreed post-launch period.
What should search optimization include?
Discuss descriptive page titles, meaningful content, sitemap generation, indexing checks and measurement. Technical setup, ongoing content work and paid advertising are separate services. Google's SEO hiring guidance cautions that no provider can guarantee first place on Google and that paid ads do not buy organic rankings.
Choosing your next move
Have a written scope and two or three comparable quotes? Check deliverables against your actual customer journey rather than relying on a portfolio image or a promise of quick rankings.
